People usually use term “Diva” to name a female singer who’s so influential in her work to become a benchmark. If you ask me who I will choose as a Diva in world pop music culture, I will definitely give my answer with only one name. MADONNA.
I believe we can only mention few names about the musicians or singers, single or group, male or female, who can endure at least couple of decades with continouous work that always get good reception among the fans. If that criteria being applied narrow down to a female singer then I can only think about Madonna.
I enjoyed her song since I was at elementary school. Songs like Material Girl, Like A Virgin, and Into The Groove really set the tone across the world back then. I remember watching video of her 1986’s single Papa Don’t Preach which boosted the True Blue album on all music charts.
At that time she had a rival. Another female artist named Cyndi Lauper. Ms Lauper also made a world phenomenon with plenty of her songs. Most notably True Colors, Time After Time, and Girls Just Want To Have Fun. But I believe Madonna has been a winner. Just look at where she and Ms Lauper are now.
That’s the thing that makes Madonna as a benchmark as she has been. She can adapt without sacrificing her style too much. She can still make a hit with different style of music that she enters. She went to the 90’s era and now 2000’s era and conquers many music charts almost effortless. The new generation are friendly with her music and so are the fans who has been following her work since the 80’s.
Personally, I like the moment when I watched her movie called In Bed With Madonna (Truth or Dare) at a movie house a long time ago. There’s a scene taken from her concert where she was singing Live To Tell. It gave me a chill. I believe that song has been one of her best song so far.
