Movie Review: Babylon A.D. (Spoiler Free)
It’s quite surprising what movie Vin Diesel chose to be in after the tremendous disaster in box office chart on his sci-fi sequel flick, The Chronicles of Riddick. Now he tries his luck (again) on another sci-fi movie, with average budget and most notably not directed by very well known director in this genre.
Babylon A. D. tells a story about Toorop, played by Vin Diesel, a mercenary who lives at some part of Russia. He got a job to escort a young girl named Aurora from Russia to America, together with Sister Rebeka. That’s the story from the start till the end. Only near the ending this movie tells all about Aurora and why someone wants to her to be in America.
You can’t expect a great story from Babylon A. D. They only focus on the chase and action sequences. Unfortunately the action sequences are quite mediocre. The only hilite is the fight scenes involving Sister Rebeka, played by Michelle Yeoh, who showed some of her martial art skills.
This movie also tried to show how Toorop character can turn from ruthless mercenary to a very kind and loving person from all near-death events those three people experienced together. But it falls far from the expectation. The emotional relationship between them is not quite well developed. Suddenly they arrive in America and the next action sequences coming up again.
Vin Diesel really lost the plot on his career. After performed really well as a leading man on Pitch Black and The Fast and The Furious, he looked confused on how to choose the appropriate movie for him. The Chronicles of Riddick should’ve been his safe ride but unfortunately turned out to be one of his biggest flop. Babylon A.D. obviously can’t give him another enjoyable ride either.

yes Put, you’re right. Standard format
this movie is slaughtered by the studio. 15 minutes which is the main explanation of the film at the end was cut ruthlessly to make it up for PG-13 release. google it on the internet, it is all over there. the director said to disowned this movie. my advice to the director, never go to america! they only care about money.
btw the director is a frenchman, produced by studio canal, and they choose the wrong partner (fox studio!)
I’m not really sure whether those 15 minutes part of the ending could help this movie to become enjoyable pren. It sucks right from the beginning. The action sequences are too american, if we can expect a difference from non-american director perspective. Anyway, thx for the info. Maybe it’s worth to watch it on uncut verson on DVD
