YOU on The Internet

Have you ever tried to type your name in search engine and see what’s the result? About 3 years ago I had a friend who told me that he tried to find my name in the internet through google search engine. It popped up with several results. I know it’s not really important. But to be honest it’s kinda cool. I felt like being a celebrity having several informations about me on the internet :mrgreen:

The world change. Internet becomes more and more involved in our lives. From shopping, learning, to many social interactions between people. Not so long ago we still make new friends by seeing them face to face. Now I believe people get even more new friends through the internet.

We used to ask people around us for let’s say, our new neighbours or our new friends in school. I wonder if it’ll be sooner than later people start to look on search engine to get that information. Like our real life, all of our profiles that will be shown by search engine could reflect who you are, from both your own perspective and others’s. From your educational history to family records. From achievement in your school days to what you’re doing right now (word “plurk” suddenly comes to mind :mrgreen: )

Obviously it’s a lot easier to have all that informations on the internet if you live in some industrialized nations. It’ll take more time to have that in developing countries like Indonesia. So for Indonesian like me, I guess we better stick to the fun part of this topic, which is, how famous are you on the search engine :mrgreen:

If you have personal blog/website obviously your name (or nickname) will be shown frequently on the search engine. About 3 years ago, when I didn’t have blog, I got only about 7-8 items shown by google, from my comments in some websites to the links to my final project report. Now I do, google show me 7 pages with about 50 items from 63 available items that contains my name in it. The more common your name is, the lesser your percentage will be.

Off course it’s very hard to beat “Tom Cruise” who has 526 items shown in 53 pages, or “Maria Ozawa” (Miyabi, Japanese porn star) who has more than 400 items in 45 pages :) But at least it’s kinda fun to see that in the internet world you or at least your name is being acknowledged for the whole world to see :mrgreen:

Now how about you, what search engine tells about you. Are you celeb in the internet yet? :mrgreen:

    dulu gue pernah nge-googling nama gue, yg keluar malah sebuah perusahaan tekstil yg (akan) bankrut..
    skrg, klo gue googling nama gue, sudah ada ryanes.com disitu hihihihi

    Brarti pabrik tekstilnya ga jadi bankrut ya :mrgreen:

    Karena Namaku Pasaran jadi susah kalau nyari namaku di Internet, kalah sama penggedhe negri ini dan seleb blog bisnis online dan lain-lain… :mrgreen:

    Mgkin si penggedhe jg mikir hal yg sama, “Siyal, gue cari nama gue di search engine koq ini nama olysus ikutan nongol juga…” :mrgreen:

    eh ngadat lg si mozilla siyalan.

    5 tahun yg lalu kalau ngetik namaku di google tidak ada satu link-pun yang mengacu padaku. Kalau keadaannya sama dengan sekarang mungkin aku akan berpikir,?jangan2 aku ini keturunan anggota organisasi pembunuh Fraternity? lol

    huehehe bisa aja lo. Iya tuh gue jd inget adegan si looser di kantor yg bolak-balik ga nemu hasil apapun pas coba googling namanya sendiri :mrgreen:

    ternyata nama kita itu juga sebuah nama sebuah benda dibelahan dunia yg lain, tapi nama kipram yakin cuma satu

    hehe nama kipram kyknya rada unik jadi rada susah disaingin :mrgreen:

    kalo ngomongin internet gw kok slalu ingetnya buku the world is flat aj.

    waktu jalan2 keluar negri, anaknya penulis (seumuran tk, kali) bilang mau kirim2 kabar ke temen2nya, trus ditanya2 ma bapaknya ternyata ga bawa satupun alamat temen2nya. Bapaknya yg wartawan senior NY Times ter-heran2 abis: Lhoh kok bisa? bagaimana caranya??
    Jawab anaknya: “yaah bapak payaaah…. khan ada om gugel”
    Anak kecil aj tau!
    Penasaran sy cek, internet emang luar biasa bro.
    Alamat komplit plit, gak cuman nama2 seleb (incl. bloger) kek qt di indo, ini sampe kode pos, telpon, peta kek di undangan2 pernikahan udah ada semua bagi rakyat (amrik) kebanyakan. Liat database mereka gini, gw ngrasa indo masih di jaman pra sejarah deh. (udee.. yg ini ga usah di-re-komenin, pecayee… ama gua deh)

    hehehehe iya pren, gue dlm mslh ini kyknya ngikut elo dah. Ga bisa ngebayangin juga gimana rasanya hidup di suatu tempat yg semua org kita kenal ternyata terdata di internet. Brarti kagak butuh lagi PDA slaen buat ngenet doank kali yak :mrgreen:

    I’ve done this a lot! I even googled some applicants names, before of after meeting them for job interview, hehe. Usually it would lead me to their Friendster or Facebook profile. Even a friend from another company said “searching applicant’s name on Google” has been officially included in their hiring procedure.

    I used to write my name in the blog with numbers like 5h31ll4 just in hope that no one I know in real life would find my blog (for some privacy reasons), but it didn’t work and they still found it anyways. Oh well the domain name itself is my real name so it shouldn’t be that hard…

    well this is interesting info Sheila. I just knew from your comment that HRD people also includes search engine in their hiring procedure :) We have one thing in common about our blog names Sheila. Actually having our own name as blog name is kinda cool :mrgreen:

    Yup, kalau narsis-nya lagi kumat, sy juga suka masuk2in nama saya ke google search atau web search lainnya….paling enggak bagian dari ‘celebrity wanna be’ bisa tersalurkan meski cm sebatas seleb google, hehe…

    hehe at least kalo dr perspektif google, kita uda bukan seleb wannabe lagi ya mbak Astrid :)

    about 5 years ago I tried to find my name on google, but found none. Just for fun, I typed my nick name http://www.iin.com, and the result was not making me proud at all, coz it was a porn site. Thanks God this site is no longer exist..fiuh…Now? yups, I can find my name…mostly coz I have a blog, and others are from newspaper (I’ve been on newspaper few time :D )….and list of names of those who have joined CPNS Test :mrgreen:

    PORN SITE?? Perhaps I should post this earlier to have a visit there hihihii :mrgreen: Wow that’s great In. The good reason to be on the internet is that you’re in the news. Positive news off course :)

    I tried searching my name in Google as well

    the professional/license test results that I have passed before displays

    but I still keep some of me private… so I don’t put my real name in my blogs or profiles in social networking sites

    you know… to be safe from stalkers… I’ve had some before

    at least, I can choose what impormation they can take from the internet about me

    Hello Pchi. Wow, you had stalkers ? it means you are celeb already :) Perhaps you should have a fans club to organize your stalkers hehe :mrgreen:

    unfortunately i have a common name, and some of them are more famous than me for their achievements. thank God i got my blogs and some accounts on internet to make this digital world notice about me. i guess that’s much better than nothing at all :D

    hehe yup I agree. It’s better to have less than nothing at all. Maybe next time your achievement can surpass theirs :)

    Hey I’ve searched my name and all in the family and yeah it gives you a good feeling when it gives good results. But most often its just you who searches your own name and not others.

    hehe yes my friend. Usually it’s us who search our own name. But I believe there’re friends of us who tried to look for our name in order to get in touch with you :mrgreen:

    Setelah gw baca postingan ini br dech gw coba2 search nama gw, & ternyata banyak banget resultnya dari Niken selebritis sampe Niken Automotive Accesories hehe…… lucu juga….. ternyata nama gw komersil jg Bro

    hehe kalo gitu mulai skrg kudu bikin website/blog pake nama elo. Biar tambah ngetop sampe nama panjang :mrgreen:
