Liverpool Break Chelsea’s Home Record!

As a Liverpudlian, I can’t help but post this topic. Well it’s a record breaking. Chelsea haven’t lost in their incredible 86 home games. Liverpool finally ended their amazing record by beating them 1-0 in Stamford Bridge last Sunday. Now Liverpool top the English Premier League and still maintain their unbeaten run this season.

I don’t know how long it will last. Especially considering that Liverpool always had unstable performance down the years under manager Rafael Benitez in the league. It’s quite different in Champions league though. They seem really comfortable in Champions league competition.

For Liverpudlian like me, this year there are some positive signs that maybe (again, maybe) Liverpool can do much better than the last several seasons. They succeeded to beat both English giants, Manchester United and Chelsea, in the league. The thing that Rafa couldn’t do in the past.

They also start to show that they can win very ugly. Many times they were behind first, even by two goals defisit, but they showed the strong character and belief to eventually win those games. I know it’s not a good way to win games, but at least it shows that they really have the intention to be a very serious title contender.

It’s still long way to go. It’s only October yet. Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, together with some strong teams like Aston Villa and Portsmouth, could do the damage for Liverpool if they’re not consistent throughout the season. Unfortunately, consistency has been Liverpool’s nemesis in the last several years. Last season they also topped of the league once. But then slipped far enough for both Manchester United and Chelsea to leap over.

Well, we’ll see this season how Liverpool could overcome their obstacles. In paper, obviously Manchester United and Chelsea are far above them. Liverpool can’t compete with their resources to buy worldclass players. Both English giants are used to buy 20-30 millions poundsterling per player. While Liverpool only once in their entire history to buy 20 millions poundsterling for a player.
It’s been 18 years of waiting for Liverpool to become champions again. It’s kinda sad. But like usual, I don’t want to expect too much. So again, we’ll see
