Playboy Apologize For Virgin Mary Cover
Who said that religion and sex can’t live together? Maybe that’s what Playboy Mexico tried to say on their latest edition December 2008. They used the cover of a really sexy girl posing as virgin Mary 
It’s understandable if there are people who try to use special gimmicks to their marketing strategy. Especially near the special moments like christmas. But what Playboy Mexico did by using religious symbol to sell sex really invites some protests.
Some priests call it “blasphemeous” and “really offensive”, quoted as “It’s totally offensive to a billion Catholics in the world and to non-Catholics who honor Mary as the mother of Jesus“.
Playboy magazine headquarters in US has released apology statement regarding this issue. “While Playboy Mexico never meant for the cover or images to offend anyone, we recognize that it has created offense, and we as well as Playboy Mexico offer our sincerest apologies,” the statement said.
According to Reuters, the model named was Maria Florencia Onori. As you can see above, she’s standing in front of a stained glass window that many people think as a reference to virgin Mary.
Personally I believe all the pubslihers must stop this kind of thing. Religion is not something that we can be playing with. The same thing goes with some cases of cartoon showing the character of prophet Muhammad. You just can’t do that.
