Comments or Traffic?

If I ask above question, which one is more important to you as a blogger, comments or traffic, what will be your answer? This question perhaps has become a never ending discourses or even debate in blogosphere.
Usually we write a blog because we need/like to express what’s on our minds. To let other people know what’s our thoughts about something. Obviously we would like as many people as possible to read what we wrote so the basic conservative purpose of blogging, “to let people know”, can be achieved.
Nowadays blogging has expanded its original purpose. To let people know is not enough. People now expect that they can earn some money from blogging. Cyber world really gives that opportunity to bloggers. This new paradigm has changed the way people blogging. Traffic now holds significant place in the blogosphere.
Comments are really important for bloggers, which is to know that the visitors really read the post and give the response. This is when people engaged in the topic we wrote and also express what they feel or think about it. Traffic is quite different. It only reflects how many visitors there are visiting your blog (let’s say) every day. It doesn’t matter whether they bother to read your post and drop some comments.
Some bloggers still prefer the old way, for example to have 50 comments from 50 visitors, means 50 people who do read the post and drop some comments. While the other bloggers now do prefer the other way, 0 (zero) comment is fine as long as they can get let’s say 2000 visitors per day.
Obviously the first one really concern about the span of their blogs network and relationship. They often exchange comments from one blogger to another. That way they can maintain the quantity of the comments for each post. They have average taste about the quality of their post.
The second one on the contrary, don’t really bother about the blogs network and relationship between bloggers. They don’t even bother about the quality of their post since they don’t really care if the visitors really read their post or not. All they care is only how to “beat” the search engine. This is when SEO, Search Engine Optimization, comes into the equation. Crap and low quality post are commonly seen on the blogs from this type of bloggers.
Me? Well I guess I’ve been trying both but the result as you can see is not so significant. I’ve never got 50 comments from 50 different visitors and obviously the visitors to this blog are far below 2000 per day
Now what do you think, are you the “comments minded” blogger, or the “traffic minded” blogger. Or maybe you have been trying both just like me but with a lot better result
Feel free to drop some comments

Comments are welcomed in any kind of language.
Again, please excuse me for my poor English ![]()

Comments for me. I feel appreciated when people gives a comment on something that I write. Traffic is not important if most of the people that comes to my blog does not get the information that they need.
I admire your reply bro. You are still an idealistic blogger
That would depends on your goal being a blogger.
If you wan to get some money from blogging, make extra attention on traffic.
If only be your journal, just be happy with comments that come to you which mean some one pays his attention to your post.
so what’s your goal, my friend, get some money or making it as a journal only?
both of them are more important..
there’s no third thing bro, so perhaps what you meant was both are important to you. I see, try to do both at the same time never do you any harm. Hope you can get better result than me bro
I’m comments freak! well (at least) until now, i love my web blog without any adv inside..
–yeah maybe later.. who knows..
that’s a good point sis. I understand that ads really make some mess with our themes. Especially when the ads have no connection with the content of our blog. Not to mention the bad design of the ads. Ok, I’ll check when that “maybe later” part is coming
gue malah gak pernah ngecek traffic sekalipun
.
so, comment lah yaw
wah kyknya ngeblog dgn cara ini nih yg enak. Bisa cerita apa aja tanpa beban yg penting hepi. Traffic? bodo amat
My main blog http://onisur.wordpress.com is quite different compared to common blogs in indonesia. it’s an academic blog, the kind of blogs which are still rare species in indonesian blogging sphere.
Initially, i don’t even bother that anyone will visit my blog or not, because it’s too academic. but surprisingly, it’s that blog those have the most visit!
So just write, no matter what is the outcome! I never realised that there are almost no academic related subject in bahasa Indonesia in internet (because I never bother to search information in bahasa, always in english). and my blog becomes just like an oasis in the middle of dessert. for several keyword, it comes up as no.1 in google!
Btw I have blog also in English http://onisur.blogspot.com
wow, that’s amazing my friend. Maybe it’s true what people said, just do blogging in whatever you’re good at, don’t worry about traffic, it’ll come to you. Btw, I just had a visit in your blog, it’s indeed different. You must be proud being the author of that blog my friend
Well…
Actually, when i decided to make a blog, I never think about comment or traffic.
I just want to write..share some (it’s maybe just a little post there) knowledge, consider me as a student..
But when people start to leave a comment behind…it’s really make me happy….
well, Putri never got that point, mas…he..he..
so at least until now comments are the ones that makes you happy Put. So you’re not really interested (yet) about traffic. I think I like what you said on the 1st paragraph. To share some knowledge. That’s a noble thing Put. You don’t have to worry about 50 comments then
the 1st time i decided make a blog was to share knowledge, some information and daily journal. i am not focus on traffic also comment. hehe
so, enjoy it
hehe yes, you’re right mbak Yella. In fact most people start blogging with that reason. Including me
But then maybe most bloggers realized that comments dropped to their post can give them more spirit to write another post and so on. Yup, I agree. We have to enjoy our blogging
A DoFollow Plugin will remove the “NoFollow” tag from the comments on my blog which means that if friends leave a comment with my website link to these DoFollow blogs Search Engines will count that link as a back link.
so does it mean that you prefer comments?
to be honest, i’d love to see my blog stats increase everyday while comments are filled with common comentators. maybe i’m a kind of seleb-blog-wannabe hahaha
*ngayal.com
hehe I believe most bloggers do love that. It means most of us are seleb-blog wannabe
Anggota ngayal.com uda banyak ya mbak
the problem is i don’t really know how to ’see’ the traffic..how to develope it and what should i do with the ‘traffic’
For this moment….
Comment is one of the way to make a ’silaturahim’ for each other…
Different area….different habits…different custom…but one connection…”BLOGGING”
I’m affraid I can’t help you Put. I don’t know how to check the traffic on XXX.Wordpress.com domain. Maybe they provide the tools because I saw some of WP blog using something like counter. Hehe totally agree with you, we share one major thing in common !
for some blogs I prefer traffic because I try to monetize them, but for my personal blog, I prefer comments because I make friends with my blog’s visitors
wow I admire your effort to make several blogs alive and kicking mas Jimmy
trafik lebih diatas dikit dibanding komen, namun dapet komen so pasti amat menyenangkan
hehe mgkin bener juga. Apalagi blog elo uda PR 4 kalo ga salah ya pren?
Aku malah lom paham dua2nya…
Aku nge-Blog ya..emang karena kejeBlog
hehe n’tar lama2x pasti paham jek.
I think my main purpose creating my blog is to ‘nyampah’…(ahahaha…don’t know the english of ‘nyampah’..alah..blubb blurpp..)..hehe..
I mean, blogging is my media to share anything about my day….and I really felt appreciate when my friends drop comments there, because that means they pay attention to us…
what about u mas?..
hehe nyampah itu bhs inggrisnya nggarbage
Yes, Oereel I felt the same way. But later after I know further about blogging and got some knowledge from senior bloggers, traffic is quite an interesting new thing
pilih traffic deh, apalagi traffic dr search engine lebih maknyus
hehe ok bro, thx. Keren deh blog elo ituh
hmm… know nothing bout SEO :p
Good point Nat !
i just write what I like, not distract with comments nor traffic. I am afraid my blogging activities won’t be natural anymore when I give any atention to any spesific things, especially traffic.
Yes, mas Hedi you spot on there. Thinking about anything else beside what you’re good at can distract the quality of your post. I totally agree with you !
suka2 sama pemilik blognya ya
mudah-mudahan suka2x drop comments juga mbak Elys
Halo tigis. Dan ketika di klik linknya, ternyata like you said, postingannya gak penting, gak asik dan gak enak dibaca, jadi yaaa all they can get is one time click and it’s over
Iya gue setuju ama pendapat Popi, gue jg heran banyak banget yg bilang pertamax
Terus jg minta link dsb. Keren nih komennya. Thx ya Popi
For now, I’m quite happy if visitors said that they did learn or get something useful/informative from my blog regardless the traffic. However, i do consider of having another blog which is not just providing quality content, but as well as attracting ads
what do u think?
that’s the spirit In !
If you can make more than one blog active then you’re truly a gifted blogger
Because for me, it’s very hard to make just one blog active. Maybe later if I got the chance to be laid off
Very Nice Site! Thanx!
thx sis
I like Traffic
But Comment will make me very Happy
hehe so we better have them both
